What's New in Safe'n'Sec Personal

Safe'n'Sec Personal Pro (Build #3470 îò 15.05.07)

New features

  1. Automatic control of unknown applications’ activity. A new of unknown application running introduces a potential threat to the user. Such an application can be secretly installed on a user’s computer as he or she browses the Internet or exchanges files with a mate. The Safe’N’Sec is able to execute unknown and new applications in the Restricted Execution Area. When an application is run in the Restricted Execution Area it has at least limited access to user’s sensitive data and critical parts of operating system, such as system registry, system files directory, etc.
  2. Automatic control of known or trusted applications. The most common applications an average user is expected to use every day can be used by malicious programs to execute harmful actions. Such a misuse is done without the user notice and without threatening the attacked application’s stability. The Safe’N’Sec is able to execute the trusted applications in the Protected Execution Area which ensures an application running in the area is protected from interference from other applications.
  3. Learning Mode. The Safe’n’Sec possesses a database with a great number of the most widely used applications and applications’ control policies as well. The database is updated via the Internet on a regular basis. However, there is a chance that the user works with a program not registered in the database. The Training Mode is thus comes into action. The Training Mode is intended to automatically analyze an unknown application and create a control policy for it.
  4. Application and process Manager. The Manager of active processes controls Authorized applications, Unauthorized applications, applications in the Protected Area, applications in the Restricted Area. An active process or application can be blocked or allowed to execute without restrictions, or moved to an Area.
  5. Import and export of control policy. Information about applications and their activities can be added to the Safe'n'Sec database via importing a control policy. Exporting a control policy is used to distribute information about applications and application activities among computers and to store such information for later usage.
  6. Simple and advanced interface of the program. The simple interface of the program is recommended for the majority of users. The simple interface exposes no additional settings. The advanced interface offers extended set of settings and is recommended only to advanced users.

Improvements

  1. Control policy’s settings have been changed.

Protection modes. Instead of the previous 3 modes of activity control there are now 2 left: Enabled with the Training Mode and Disabled.
Control policy views. A control policy can be represented in the following ways: protection areas (file system, system registry, network, etc), logical groups, and a list of applications. Each representation contains corresponding rules for controlling application activity.
Control policy rules editor. The interface of the editor is enhanced. A rule now covers all possible actions (creation, deletion, change, etc.) of a single area (file system, network, etc.). In the former versions of the Safe’N’Sec a rule can only be created for a single action.
Control policy rules logical groups. Rules in a control policy can be logically grouped. A logical group determines whether its rules are Enabled or Disabled.
Control policy’s time scope. Rules of a control policy can be enabled for a certain time period.
Application control policy with regard to the user. Activity control rules are bound to a specific user or a user group

  2. Malicious code search settings have been changed and enhanced.

Additional parameters. Instead of 3 levels of checking there are additional scan parameters introduced: by object type (archives, mail databases, etc,), by file types (all or executable), by scope (all disks, removable media, etc.).
Rootkit search. New version of the Safe’N’Sec is able to scan for hidden resources (files, processes, drivers) and interceptors, installed by other programs. The Safe’N’Sec is now able to delete hidden resources from operating system.

Safe'n'Sec Personal 2.5 (Build #1989 at 07.12.06)

Safe'n'Sec Personal 2.0 Update #10 (Build #1345 at 06.06.06)

Improvements

  1. Settings. Additional setting for user interface mode: Simple and Advanced. Simple interface is recommended for most users. User can create application control rules interactively and is able to have detailed technical information about application activities in advanced mode.
  2. Alert. A new look of alert window. Simple alert in Simple mode without additional decision settings for most users. By default Safe’n’Sec automatically creates a new rule in this mode and remembers application activity. Additional decision options in Advanced mode that may be saved for next alert window.
  3. Setup & Uninstall. Additional install option to select the required user interface.
  4. Setup & Uninstall. Additional install option to switch off network activity control. It's necessary to create applications control rules in interactive mode for network activity control. If user isn’t ready to work in learning mode or already use personal firewall, we recommend not to activate network activity control.
  5. Setup & Uninstall. Additional options for saving user data for further use. If user reinstalls software and has a huge base of activity control rules and custom settings, this data may be saved. During next installation process setup program doesn’t rewrite this user data by default settings.
  6. Add new applications in known application list.
  7. Add new system activity control rules

Safe'n'Sec Personal 2.0 (Build #847 at 23.01.06)

Fixed bugs

  1. Bug #000316: Alert screen. If the action “Allow” or “Block” is not chosen, then after the period when a user must make a decision the alert screen is closed and the decision by default is not applied.
  2. Bug #000310: Active processes list. System macros are displayed in the process information instead of values.
  3. Bug #000312: Active processes list. The value of the “Delete After Reboot” parameter is not kept.
  4. Bug #000319: Alert screen. The options “Delete activity control rules” and “ Disable allowed activity control rules” do not work in the alert screen when a module of the controlled application is changed.

Safe'n'Sec Personal 2.0

Compared to previous versions, the new version of Safe’n’Sec has the following new features and improvements:

  • Program functionality has been significantly extended: it now monitors the network activities of applications (establishing incoming/outgoing connections, sending/receiving data), analyzes the mutual operation of different processes (interfering of one process into other processes), and controls calls to system functions (for example, as in the case of installation of key loggers)

  • Activity control policies can now be configured in a more flexible manner:

    • The user can select the activity to be controlled.

    • The rules for controlling activities can be customized by the user. The user can also create new rules. In the earlier versions of Safe'n'Sec, the user could not change or view the rules.

    • The user can now not only to select a control policy but also specify the actions to be taken by the application upon detection of potentially malicious activity on your computer. Specific actions can be defined for each control policy.

    • For applications for which an activity control rule is specified, users can configure Safe’n’Sec to check application integrity as well.

  • Safe’n’Sec has a list of trusted applications whose activity has been analyzed by StarForce experts. This feature enhances the speed of analyzing application activities on a user PC.

  • The manager of active processes is improved. Now Safe’n’Sec can scan processes for the presence of malicious code, create custom activity rules, remove processes during system reboot, and view the network activities of processes.

  • The dialog box warning the user about a malicious activity contains technical details on the detected application, its activity, and provides recommended user actions. Users can manually terminate a process after it has been blocked, using additional settings for decision making.

  • Through the Management Console, users can enable/disable activity control. In previous versions, this operation was accessible only from the application settings window.

  • The protection of Safe’n’Sec’s own processes from unloading and damage by malicious software has been improved.

  • Report processing has been significantly improved. Now users can select and view reports in a special dialog box.

  • The program configuration window has been redesigned. This window is now implemented in the same style as other proactive protection products of the StarForce Company.

  • The installation procedure is significantly improved. Now there is no need to restart the system following installation. Proactive protection starts immediately after the program is installed.

Also pleasant is the fact that PC reload after the program installation is not required any more!
